At 16, David has experienced more than his fair share of suffering. Following the sudden death of his soldier brother, David's grief-stricken parents obsessively turn to religion for comfort. Tension builds after sacrificing his promising future as a baseball pitcher, and breaking up with his girlfriend, to keep his collapsing family together. When his parents disappear on the night of the Rush (Rapture), David must untangle the mystery with his sister Mara, best friend Kane, and ex-girlfriend Bailey. Assuming that the Rush is a ridiculous notion, has something terrible, such as a dual-suicide occurred, were they abducted, or did they run away from their two children?
